Dr. Chaim Weizmann was born in the town of Motol in the Russian Pale of Settlement in November 1874.
He would move to England in 1904 and there play a leading role in convincing the British government to issue the Balfour Declaration, Britain’s statement in favor of a Jewish National Home.
Weizmann would go on to lead the Zionist movement for decades as president of the World Zionist Organization.
He would eventually become Israel’s first president.
