Though there will be several waves of Aliyah to the Promised Land, it is the Second Aliyah that puts the framework for a Jewish National Home in place.
This second wave of immigration begins in 1904. It is made up of mainly Russian and Polish youth imbued with the revolutionary socialist ideas then sweeping the Russian intelligentsia.
They quickly set up rival political parties and will become the Jewish State’s first leaders. They will also set up many of the institutions important to the new state.
