The Jews form three underground groups in British-controlled Palestine. The Fighters for the Freedom of Israel, also known as Lehi, takes up arms against the British in 1940. The Irgun Tzvai Leumi is next. It revolts in 1944. The Jewish Agency-led Haganah, the largest, joins last. The three groups will operate jointly for a time in the United Hebrew Resistance.
