The Irgun Zvai Leumi (“National Military Organization”) splinters off from the Haganah following the 1929 Arab riots.
The Irgun will come into its own under the leadership of Menachem Begin, who had served as the leader of Betar in Poland, the youth organization founded by Zionist leader Vladimir “Ze’ev” Jabotinsky.
Begin will lead the Irgun in a revolt against the British starting in 1944 when it is clear the Allies will be victorious.
The Irgun will play a decisive role in driving the British from Palestine.
