Jabotinsky’s Children
Occasionally, I write book reviews. I thought I’d share a link to my latest.
The book is titled Jabotinsky’s Children by Daniel Kupfert Heller, an assistant professor in the Jewish Studies Department at McGill University.
The topic of the book is Vladimir Jabotinsky and his youth movement Betar.
Jabotinsky was one of Zionism’s great leaders, active in the movement from about 1903 to 1940, the year of his death. He was also arguably the Zionist leader with whom Americans can most easily identify as he was the most western in outlook of Zionist leaders, devoted to democratic ideals.
Unfortunately, Daniel Kupfert Heller paints him as a crypto-fascist, dredging up old slanders hurled at Jabotinsky long ago by his socialist opponents that have no bearing in reality.
Pity. A good book on Jabotinsky would have been welcome. In this case, save your money.
