Prof. Orit Ichilov

Prof. Orit Ichilov

Orit Ichilov is a sociologist and full professor (emerita) at the School of Education of Tel-Aviv University in Israel. She chaired the Department of Educational Sciences at Tel-Aviv University and was vice-president of the International Society of Political Psychology. Her research has focused on political socialization and political education.

She is the author of The Political World of Children and Adolescents (1984, in Hebrew), Citizenship Education in an Emerging Society  (1993, in Hebrew); and Political Learning and Citizenship Education Under Conflict (2004); The Retreat From Public Education (2009); coauthor of Between State and Church: Life History of a French-Catholic School in Jaffa  (1996); and editor of Political Socialization, Citizenship Education, and Democracy (1990), Education for Democratic Citizenship (1994, in Hebrew), Citizenship and Citizenship Education in a Changing World (1998) and Privatization and Commercialization of Public Education in Israel (2010).

In 2002-2003 she was Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C. In 2006-2007 Ichilov was Visiting Scholar at Oxford University in the UK. In 2010 she was Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Auckland, NZ and Visiting Professor at OISE, University of Toronto.
